EMMET COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- The Emmet County Sheriff is filing a civil infraction against the state representative who was found with an unregistered gun at the Pellston Airport.

Emmet County Sheriff Pete Wallin said his office is issuing a state civil infraction against Lee Chatfield for failing to register his firearm within 10 days of purchase.

Chatfield was trying to board a plane at the Pellston Airport in July when an unregistered handgun was found in his bag.

Chatfield addressed the incident on his Facebook page after it happened.

Wallin said if Chatfield is found responsible he'll be fined no more than $250.
